INGREDIENTS:

Blue sea crabs = 1 kg, each crab cut in to 2 pieces
For marinade:
salt = 1 teaspoon 
 turmeric = ½ teaspoon 
ginger-garlic paste = 2 teaspoons 
 chili powder = 1 teaspoon 
 besan powder(chick pea floor) = 2 teaspoons 
 mustard oil = 2 teaspoons 

For curry:

chopped onions = 2 nos
 split green chillies = 4
 curry leaves = 1 small bunch
 mustard seeds = ½ teaspoon
 cumin seeds = ½ teaspoon
 sesame powder = 3 teaspoons
 tamarind pulp = 2 table spoons
 garam masala powder = 1 teaspoon
 coriander powder = 1 teaspoon
 shahjeera/carway seeds = ½ teaspoon
 aniseed's = one pinch.
 fennel seeds = one pinch
 grated coconut = 2 teaspoons
 black pepper powder = 1 teaspoon
 cooking oil = 1 table spoons


Crab Masala

Procedure:

Marinate crabs with marinade ingredients for one hour
Heat oil in a medium sized pan
Saute mustard and cumin seeds in the hot oil
Then add onions, split green chilies and curry leaves and fry for 2 minutes until onions turn light brown
Add marinated crabs to the pan and cook for 5 minutes with lid covered
Add tamarind pulp, sesame powder, garam masala powder, coriander powder, aniseed's, fennel seeds, grated coconut powder, pepper powder and shahjeera and cook with lid covered for 10 minutes and for 5 minutes with lid opened until the gravy becomes thick and stuck to the crab pieces
Garnish with curry leaves and coriander leaves serve hot
Goes well with plain rice, roti or as a cocktail snack .
