This Dal is made with red lentil and tamarind is used to make it sour(khatta) ,generally served with biryani rice in Hyderabad and can be made as side dish with any Indian breads or boiled white rice.

Ingredients:

Masoor Dal(Red Lentil)-1cup.
Onion-1
Tamarind pulp-2 tablespoons.
Tomatoes-1 medium.
Turmeric-1/2 teaspoon.
finely chopped garlic- Garlic pods10.
Green chillies-5 to 6.
Mustard seeds-1/2 teaspoon.
Cumin(jeera)-1/2 teaspoon.
Urad Dal-1/2 teaspoon.
Dry red chillies-3 to 4.
Water-2 cups.
Salt-1 teaspoon.
Oil/Ghee -1.5 tablespoon.
Freshly chopped coriander leaves -1 tablespoon.

Preparation:

Wash Masoor Dal,add chopped onions,tomatoes,and turmeric ,2 cups of water pressure cook for 3 whistles.Soak tamarind in half cup of water,make the tamarind pulp from it.

Check Dal is cooked softly,add tamarind pulp.
Add a spoon of oil to a pan heat it,add finely chopped garlic,saute them till golden brown and add to Dal,cook it for 3 more minutes.

Add salt  and mix it
Now make seasoning by adding a teaspoon of oil  to fry pan heat it ,add cumin,mustard,urad Dal ,red chillies,green chillies,curry leaves ,when they start tempering add to Dal.
Add chopped  fresh coriander and serve it hot.
