Ingredients:

  1. Moong Dal(Yellow gram)-1 cup.
  2. Tomato-1.
  3. Onion-1.
  4. Green chillies-4 to 5(adjust according to spiciness of Chilies).
  5. Garlic clove - 5 to 6.
  6. Curry leaves.
  7. Mustard seeds-1 teaspoon.
  8. Cumin (Jeera )-1 teaspoon.
  9. Urad Dal -1table spoon.
  10. Turmeric -1/2 teaspoon.
  11. Asafoetida (hing) - 1/4 teaspoon( a pinch).

Procedure:
Wash Moong Dal ,slice onions and tomatoes.Pressure cook Dal,adding onions,tomato,oil 1/2 teaspoon,
turmeric and 2 cups of water for 3 whistles.
After Dal is cooked well add salt and chilly powder ,heat it for a minute.

For tempering(tadka):

Heat oil in a pan. add cumin mustard,Urad Dal,red chillies , crushed garlic and fry them. the cumin ,Urad Dal ,garlic should get fried to light brown and not be raw but don't burn them.
add curry leaves and asafoetida.
 once curry turn crisp , pour the entire tempering along with the oil into the Dal.

Serve the Dal tadka with the tempering on top it or mix well,with white boiled rice or Roti.
